Expedition travel refers to journeys that are different to “normal travel” due to:
– their itineraries are not always fixed as the purpose of the trip is to explore.
– they may have further purposes such as being scientific or to assist in unique events.
– they are often education focused and are accompanied by experts in various fields.

Our suppliers’ trips are quoted in foreign currency (primarily US Dollar or British Pound) and therefore prices vary with the current exchange rates.

Furthermore within a single expedition there are various variables (cabin preferences, add on activities, etc) that effect the price. This is where we can offer you our valuable insights in order to get you the best value for your money.

Truthfully – No
As is industry norm, Unique Destinations earns commission through sales it brings to its suppliers, the price of a trip will not change if you choose to go direct to a supplier and you will lose out in not having us to assist you.

Furthermore Unique Destinations may be able to get a better price for our customers with our trusted suppliers than quoted on their websites due to longstanding business relationships.

There are differences in each trip, but we deal with all the details for you so that you can enjoy your travels.

In general most expedition travel (specifically for South African based clients) excludes flights to & from the start/end destination of the expedition – we will gladly assist with your flight plans through our trusted flight partner or you may book yourself.

Given the nature of certain areas there are prime times and there are “not possible” times (polar winters).
Expedition travel also means that certain itineraries are seldom repeated or are once off.

It is recommended that you understand what draws you to a certain area or expedition and then that you book well in advance to avoid dissapointment.

Expedition travel will lead you well off the beaten track and to uncommon places.

Although we cannot apply for VISAs on your behalf, our continued experience in how and with whom to apply for VISAs will assist you in making this often stressful part of travelling, simple.
